Ancillary Task 1: Digi Pak Final Piece IMAGE

For the cover of our music alum we decided to go for something simple. We wanted something darker that we felt would stand out amongst common block bright colours on shelves. The bright stars however stick to the conventional pop genre. We feel they add something to lighten the image and give it a sense of playfulness. We decided to use the image of him smoking the cigarette however because of our intention to create a hybrid indie pop video. It is common amongst indie genres to feature the lead singer smoking.

For example one of the most iconic indie albums of all time features the lead singer of the Arctic Monkeys, Alex Turner smoking on the front. We felt this connection would inspire our target audience. It also links to Roland Barthes theory of 'myths'. It also links to a societal ideology of women finding 'bad boys' attractive. This attractive edge is something that also appeals to our target audience of young adults. We know this is proven as, although Artic Monkeys primary audience is not teenage girls, they did have a large female following because of the image they presented. This is a famous picture linked to Alex Turner and the indie genre of music. We manipulated our album cover according with this to link it to the genre of music we wished to create. However the bright colours and subtle innocence that is not present in the Artic Monkeys is what presents our album as a hybrid genre front cover.
